Application
An Amide Selective Direct Thionations
A typical procedure for thionation reactions of carbonyl compounds: To a solution of the amide (1.0 mmol) in toluene (1 mL) is added sulfur (0.035 g, 1.1 mmol), DMAP (0.13 g, 1.1 mmol) and trichlorosilane (0.11 mL, 1.1 mmol). The resulting mixture is heated at 115 °C with stirring before being cooled and added to a satd. aq. NaHCO3 or 1 M NaOH solution. To the resulting mixture is added Et2O, and the organic layer is separated, washed with water (10 mL x 3), dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue is subjected to column chromatography on silica gel to give the corresponding thiocarbonyl compound.
