Application
Megestrol Acetate: A Semi-Synthetic Progestational Agent
Megestrol acetate and medroxyprogesterone acetate [M1964], semi-synthetic progestational agents, are effective hormonal treatments for metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The antineoplastic effect may result from inhibition of pituitary gonadotropin production and resultant decrease in estrogen secretion. Recently, megestrol acetate is often used for the treatment of anorexia and cachexia. The precise mechanism is unknown at the present time. (The product is for research purpose only.)
