TODGA (1) is an effective extractant for rare-earth elements.1) 1 is highly lipophilic and applicable to extraction of metals to the organic layer in the HNO3(aq.)-n-dodecane system.1,2) Due to the high extractability with 1 of hard metal ions such as rare-earth metals, 1 is evaluated as an extractant for the separating of rare-earth elements from high-level nuclear waste solutions at nuclear reactors. 3) On the other hand, MIDOA (2) is superior to extract soft metals, so they are complementarily utilized.4)
