Application
Thioridazine Hydrochloride: A Phenothiazine Dopamine D2 Receptor Antagonist and an Antibacterial Agent against MDR-TB or XDR-TB
Thioridazine hydrochloride is a phenothiazine dopamine D2 receptor antagonist which has previously been extensively used for its antipsychotic properties, but fell out of favor because of its increasing the risk of arrhythmia from QTc-prolongation. However, recently, there is good evidence to suggest that, in common with other phenothiazine agents, thioridazine has important antibacterial activity and is a potential candidate for development as an antibacterial agent against multi-resistant organisms, such as multidrug-resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDR-TB or XDR-TB). Further, some studies suggest that thioridazine has activity against cancer stem cells (CSCs). (The product is for research purpose only.)
