Application
Avanafil: A Potent and Highly Selective Inhibitor of Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5)
Avanafil is a potent and highly selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5), which is the predominant PDE isoenzyme in human corpora cavernosa. In there, nitric oxide (NO) activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which results in increased levels of cGMP. Avanafil enhances the effect of NO by inhibiting PDE5, which is responsible for degradation of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum. There are reports that avanafil has a favorable PDE-5 selectivity profile compare to that of other PDE-5 inhibitors, such as sildenafil citrate [S0986]. (The product is for research purpose only.)
