MitoBADY: Mitochondria-selective Raman Probe
Mitochondria plays an important role in maintaining cells like energy supply, cell death, regulation of calcium signaling, and cell metabolism. Therefore, live imaging of mitochondria is useful for understanding their relationship to biological processes.
MitoBADY is a Raman probe for mitochondrial imaging developed by Sodeoka et al.1) MitoBADY consists of a triphenylphosphonium moiety as a lipophilic cation for targeting mitochondria and a bisarylbutadiyne moiety (BADY),2) which exhibits strong Raman intensity. It was confirmed that MitoBADY is useful as a mitochondrial marker in Raman imaging of the HeLa cell. Therefore, MitoBADY is anticipated in the use of a wide range of applications.3)
