Application
Minoxidil: An Opener of Vascular Smooth Muscle ATP Dependent K+ Channels

Minoxidil is an antihypertensive vasodilator agent and hair growth promoter that is metabolized by sulfation to the active compound, minoxidil sulfate [CAS: 83701-22-8]. The mode of action of the effects are still not completely understood, but the most plausible explanation is that minoxidil sulfate acts as an opener of vascular smooth muscle ATP dependent K+ (KATP) channels. Additionally, transdermal minoxidil delivery systems have been developed to increase the skin permeability.
