Monodentate Optically Active Phosphine Ligand
No.124(April 2006)
The optically active monodentate phosphine ligand 1, developed by Hayashi et al., forms optically active metal complex catalysts with transition metals.1) In particular, palladium complexes of 1 are used for the highly regioselective and highly enantioselective hydrosilylation of olefins. The obtained hydrosilylation products 2 are readily transformed into the secondary alcohols 3 by the Tamao oxidation.2) This use of 1 has frequently been utilized as a procedure to obtain optically active alcohols from prochiral olefins. For example, optically active exo-norbornanol, which is an important raw material for making a variety of bioactive compounds, can be obtained from norbornene in highyield.3)
