Cefcapene Pivoxil Hydrochloride: A Third Generation Semisynthetic Cephalosporin Antibiotic with Powerful Activity against Staphylococcus Aureus
Cefcapene Pivoxil Hydrochloride is a third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, which is chemically synthesized form 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA) [A1266]. It is a prodrug of the active cefcapene, has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and is generally more active against Gram-negative bacteria than the first and second generation cephalosporins. Furthermore, it is different from other oral cephalosporins by virtue of its powerful activity against Staphylococcus aureus strains.
