A Powerful Acceptor Building Block Useful for the Development of Organic Electronics Materials

3,7-Dihydrobenzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']difuran-2,6-dione (1) is a powerful electron acceptor building block useful for the development of π-conjugated polymers. Some polymers made from acceptor units containing 1 have been reported as n-type organic field-effect transistor (OFET) materials exhibiting high electron mobilities.1-3) 1 is also gaining attention as a building block for organic thermoelectric materials, and organic thermoelectric materials with high electrical conductivities more than 10 Scm1 and high power factors more than 10 μWm1K2 have been realized.4,5) These high performances are thought to be achieved by effective n-type doping through the deep lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels and good π-π stacking.4,5) Furthermore, it have reported that a highly conductive and solution processable n-type conductive polymer with conductivities over 2000 Scm−1 is synthesized through the oxidative polymerization of 1 and subsequent n-doping.6,7)
