Axitinib: A Potent and Selective Inhibitor of VEGFR Tyrosine Kinases -1, -2, and -3
Axitinib (AG-013736), a small molecule indazole derivative, is an oral, potent tyrosine kinase receptor inhibitor, which selectively inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR)-1, -2, and -3. These receptors are implicated in pathologic angiogenesis, tumor growth, and cancer progression. Axitinib is shown to inhibit cellular autophosphorylation of VEGF receptors and tumor growth.
