Anandamide: An Endogenous Agonist of CB1 and CB2 Receptors
Anandamide (Arachidonoyl Ethanolamide: AEA) is the N-acyl ethanolamide of arachidonic acid, originally isolated from porcine brain.1) AEA is an endocannabinoid that has been reported to act as an endogenous agonist of CB1 and CB2 receptors which are the primary molecular target responsible for the pharmacological effects of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in Cannabis sativa.
