Application
Mirtazapine: A Noradrenergic and Specific Serotonergic Antidepressant (NaSSA)
Mirtazapine (Org 3770) is the first noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant (NaSSA). Studies have suggested that mirtazapine acts as an antagonist at central presynaptic α2 adrenergic inhibitory autoreceptors and heteroreceptors, as well as by blocking 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors. Therefore, these antagonisms enhance the release of noradrenaline and 5-HT1A-mediated serotonergic transmission in brain. Mirtazapine is mainly metabolized by CYP1A2, CYP2D6, and CYP3A4. (The product is for research purpose only.)
