2-Thiouridine: A Sulfur-Containing Thioribonucleoside Found in tRNA
2-Thiouridine (s2U) is a sulfur-containing thioribonucleoside found in tRNA. Thioribonucleosides have been reported to perform essential functions for accurate and efficient translation, including proper codon recognition in mRNA or stabilization of tRNA structure. In addition, 2-thiouridine is stabilizes U:A pairs and destabilizes U:G wobble pairs. Thus, thioribonucleosides, including 2-thiouridine, are used to study nucleic acid structure and function.
