2-Arachidonylglycerol: An Endogenous Agonist of CB₁ and CB₂ Receptors

2-Arachidonylglycerol (2-AG) is an ester formed of arachidonic acid and glycerol, originally isolated from canine intestines.¹⁾ 2-AG an endocannabinoid that has been reported to act as an endogenous agonist of CB₁ and CB₂ receptors which are the primary molecular target responsible for the pharmacological effects of Δ⁹-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in Cannabis sativa. The endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) is comprised of CB₁ and CB₂ receptors, and modulates neuronal and immune cell function, both of which play key roles in pain. Therefore, therapeutics targeting this system hold promise as novel analgesics.^2-6) (The product is for research purpose only.)
