Application
Urolithin A: A Secondary Metabolite with Antioxicant, Anti-Inflammatory and Antiproliferative Properties
Urolithin A is a secondary metabolite produced by gut bacteria from ingested ellagic acid [E0375] and ellagitannins which are polyphenols found in numerous fruits and vegetables.1) There are reports that urolithin A shows antioxicant, anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative properties.2,3) Furthermore, urolithin A induces mitophagy both in vitro and in vivo following oral consumption.3,4) (For reference, mitophagy is an evolutionarily conserved cellular process to remove dysfunctional or superfluous mitochondria.) (The product is for research purpose only.)
