Application
Idoxuridine: A Thymidine Analog and an Antiviral Agent against Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
Idoxuridine is a thymidine analog that is used as an antiviral agent against herpes simplex virus (HSV). Idoxuridine has a chemical structure similar to thymidine, except that the 5-methyl group is replaced by iodine. Herpes simplex virus utilizes thymidine in the synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). When idoxuridine is substituted for thymidine in the viral DNA, the viral is unable to replicate its DNA. (The product is for research purpose only.)
