Application
Piperlongumine: A Pyridone Alkaloid with Anti-Tumor Properties
Piperlongumine is a pyridone alkaloid isolated from Piper longum L. found in southern India and Southeast Asia. Recent reports have shown that piperlongumine have anti-tumor properties. Piperlongumine increases the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) selectively in tumor cells, and induces apoptotic cell death in tumor cells but not normal cells.
