Application
Alosetron Hydrochloride: A Potent and Selective 5-HT3 Receptor Antagonist
Alosetron Hydrochloride is a potent and selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) [S0370, HCL salt] is a key modulator of gastrointestinal sensorimotor function. 5-HT3 receptors, a subtype of 5-HT receptors, are ligand-gate cation channels that are extensively distributed on enteric neurons in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as other peripheral and central locations. Alosetron inhibits activation of these channels, which results in the modulation of the enteric nervous system. Alosetron is used for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
