Application
Propranolol Hydrochloride: A Non-Selective and Catecholamine Competitive β-Adrenergic Receptor Antagonist
Propranolol hydrochloride is a non-selective and competitive catecholamine β-adrenergic receptor antagonist. Propranolol blocks β1 (myocardial)- and β2(pulmonary, vascular and uterine)-adrenergic receptor site. There are two enantiomers of propranolol, and it is reported that the S-enantiomer blocks β-adrenergic receptors. The mechanism of the antihypertensive effects of propranolol has not been clearly established. However, propranolol may reduce the oxygen requirement of the heart at any level of effort by blocking catecholamine (such as dopamine [A0305], noradrenaline [A0906] and adrenaline [A0173])-induced increases in the heart rate, systolic blood pressure and the velocity and extent of myocardial contraction. (The product is for research purpose only.)
