Application
Fidaxomicin: A Narrow-Spectrum Macrolide Antibiotic Active against Clostridia
Fidaxomicin (OPT-80) is a narrow-spectrum macrolide antibiotic obtained from the Actinomycete Dactylosporangium aurantiacum. Fidaxomicin is active primarily against species of clostridia, including Clostridium difficile (or Clostridioides difficile) that is a major cause of hospital-acquired diarrhea and mortality in individuals. Fidaxomicin has demonstrated potent in vitro bactericidal activity, inhibiting RNA synthesis by RNA polymerases, with limited or no activity against normal fecal flora. In addition, it is minimally absorbed from the intestinal tract. (The product is for research purpose only.)
