Application
Carbamazepine: A Nerve Stabilizer
Carbamazepine (carbamazepin) stabilizes hyper excited nerve membranes, inhibits repetitive neuronal discharges, and reduces synaptic propagation of excitatory impulses. Although, the mechanisms of action of carbamazepine are not completely understood, but it has been reported that carbamazepine prevents the repetitive firing of sodium-dependent action potentials in depolarized neurons via voltage-dependent blockade of sodium channels. Recent studies shows that carbamazepine-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome is associated with a gene polymorphism of Human leukocyte antigen, HLA-B*1502. On the other hand, the removal of carbamazepine is a problem in the wastewater treatment plants. (The product is for research purpose only.)
