Application
Sulfur-Transfer Reagent
Typical Procedure (Entry 4):
A solution of α-bromoacetophenone (1.00 g, 5.02 mmol) and bis(tributylstannyl) sulfide (1.85 g, 3.02 mmol) in DMF/EtOAc (5 : 1, 25 mL) is placed in a 50 mL flask. The mixture is kept under nitrogen and heated with an oil bath at 45 °C while stirring vigorously. The reaction is monitored by TLC (silica gel, acetone : hexane=5 : 95, UV visualization). After 6 h, the solvent is removed under high vacuum. Purification is carried out on silica gel using hexane as first eluent (to remove non-polar organotin) followed by gradually increasing the EtOAc content to 30% of the solvent mixture. The eluate is evaporated and the residue is recrystallized from hexane to give product as a colorless solid (0.637 g, Y. 94%).
