A New Curcumin Analogue with Enhanced Antitumor Activities

Curcumin (2) has chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic potentials against various types of cancers, but low bioavailability prevents its use in chemotherapeutic applications. GO-Y030 (1) is a new synthetic analogue of 2, developed by Shibata and Iwabuchi et al. to increase its potential and circumvent its low bioavailability. 1 has been reported that it shows a 30-fold greater suppression of tumor cell growth compared with 2.¹⁾ 1 has been reported that it inhibits signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3)^2a,b) and IKKβ kinase,^2c) and suppresses tumor growth of cancer stem cells.^2b) Additionally, the structure activity relationships of the antitumor 1 have been reported.³⁾
