Application
Betahistine: A Histamine H1 Receptor Agonist/H3 Antagonist
Betahistine and its methanesulfonate [B1424] are structural analogs of histamine [H0146, dihydrochloride] that act as both partial histamine H1-receptor agonists and histamine H3 receptor antagonists in neuronal tissue. Betahistine increases histamine turnover and release by blocking presynaptic H3-receptors and inducing H3-receptor downregulation.1-3) Betahistine has been reported to increase vestibular blood flow and is used clinically as an antivertigo agent.2,3) Recently, it has been reported that betahistine induced the recall of forgotten memories in mice.4) (The product is for research use only.)
