Hydrotrope research
Hydrotropes are small molecules able to enhance the solubility of hydrophobic substances in aqueous media. Their water-solubility can significantly enhance the solubility of organic solutes such as esters, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, hydrocarbons, and fats.1) 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate has been reported to enhance the solubility of hydrophobic compounds like vanillin (H0264), ibuprofen (I0415), and artemisinin (A2118), in aqueous media.2-4)
