Zearalenone: A Mycotoxin with Estrogenic Activities
Zearalenone is a mycotoxin, a naturally occurring toxin, produced mainly by fungi belonging to the genus Fusarium in foods and feeds.1,2) Zearalenone has been shown to be hepatotoxic, hematotoxic, immunotoxic, and genotoxic effects.1) Furthermore, many animal studies have found zearalenone to possess a disruptive effect on the hormonal balance, mainly due to its similarity to naturally-occurring estrogens.3,4) (The product is for research purpose only.)
