Application
Praziquantel: An Anthelmintic Agent for Schistosoma and Liver Fluke
Praziquantel (abbr.: PZQ), an anthelmintic agent, is used to treat schistosoma and liver fluke from 1980s. Although its mechanism of action remains unknown exactly, there are some reports that PZQ increases the permeability of the membranes of schistosoma cells towards calcium ions. PZQ thereby induces contraction of the schistosoma, resulting in paralysis in the contracted state.
