5-Hydroxyuridine: One of the Oxidized Lesions of Uridine and Cytosine
5-Hydroxyuridine (ho5U) is one of the main lesions of uridine and cytosine produced in RNA by various oxidants.1,2) Oxidized pyrimidines, including 5-hydroxyuridine, are excised from RNA by single-strand-selective monofunctional uracil-DNA glycosylase 1 (SMUG1), a base-excision repair enzyme.3,4) In addition, A highly sensitive detection method for the detection of 5-hydroxyuridine in RNA has been reported.5)
