Globotriose: an important cell surface epitope that acts as the receptor for Shiga toxins
Globotriose (Galα1-4Galβ1-4Glc) is an important cell surface epitope that acts as the receptor for Shiga toxins. The most common sources for Shiga toxin are Shiga toxin (Stx)-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) which includes serotypes O157 and O104, causes fatal diarrhea and colitis in humans. Hence, globotriose is has been used to study these infections. (The product is for research purpose only.)
