Application
Febantel: A Broad-Spectrum Pro-Benzimidazole Anthelminthic
Febantel is a veterinary anthelmintic belonging to the chemical class of the benzimidazoles, but is a so-called pro-benzimidazole. Febantel itself has no anthelmintic properties. It is transformed into active fenbendazole and fenbendazole sulfoxide (= oxfendazole) in the host's liver. It is highly active against various species of nematodes and cestodes in mice, rats, dogs, sheep, and cattle. Recently, Febantel is often used in combination with other anthelmintics (pyrantel pamoate and etc.). (The product is for research purpose only.)
