Application
Erastin: A Ferroptosis Inducer
Erastin is a ferroptosis inducer. Ferroptosis is a type of programmed cell death dependent on iron and characterized by the accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species. There are reports that erastin inhibits cystine uptake by the cystine/glutamate antiporter (system xc-), which helps maintain the redox state. This inhibition creates a void in the cell's antioxidant defenses and ultimately leads to iron-dependent oxidative death (ferroptosis). In addition, activation of ferroptosis results in the non-apoptotic destruction of certain cancer cells. (The product is for research purpose only.)
