Dihydroartemisinic Acid: A Biosynthetic Precursor and Synthetic Intermediate of the Antimalarial Agent Artemisinin
Dihydroartemisinic acid is a biosynthetic precursor of the antimalarial agent artemisinin [A2118]. It undergoes a spontaneous endoperoxide-forming cascade reaction to yield artemisinin in the presence of air.1,2) Dihydroartemisinic acid is also a synthetic intermediate of artemisinin from artemisinic acid.3)
