Application
Deferasirox: A Potent Chelating Agent with a Selective Affinity for Ferric Ion [Fe (III)]
Deferasirox (ICL670A) is a potent chelating agent with a selective affinity for ferric ion [Fe (III)]. Deferasirox binds with ferric ions to form neutral 2:1 (deferasirox:iron) complexes. And then, deferasirox has a lower binding affinity for other metals such as copper, aluminum and zinc than for iron. Deferasirox, an iron selective chelator, is used therapeutically in conditions of transfusional iron overload for the excretion of iron. (The product is for research purpose only.)
