Almotriptan Malate: A Selective 5-HT1B/1D Receptor Agonist
Almotriptan malate is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine1B/1D (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonist, known as triptan. Almotriptan binds with high affinity to 5-HT1B, 5-HT1D, and 5-HT1F receptors, and has weak affinity for 5-HT1A and 5-HT7 receptors. However, almotriptan has no significant affinity at 5-HT2, 5-HT3, 5-HT4 or 5-HT6. Triptans, including almotriptan, are major advance in the treatment of migraine. The therapeutic activity of triptans in migramine can most likely to be attributed to agonist effects at 5-HT1B/1D receptors on the intracranial blood vessels. (The product is for research purpose only.)
