Application
(-)-Huperzine A: A Potent, Highly Specific and Reversible Inhibitor of Acetylcholinesterase
(-)-Huperzine A (HupA), a Lycopodium alkaloid isolated from the Chinese herb Huperzia Serrata, is a potent, highly specific and reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). It has been reported that HupA has better penetration through the blood-brain barrier, higher oral bioavailability, and longer duration of AChE inhibitory action, compared with other AChE inhibitors including donepezil [D4099] and rivastigmine [R0093]. Recently, HupA has been used in Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. (The product is for research purpose only.)
