The homeodomain protein Nanog plays an essential role in the self-renewal of embryonic stem (ES) cells.1-3) On the other hand, it was reported that Nanog gene repression was primarily mediated by the Grb2/Mek pathway.4) 2-(2-Amino-3-methoxyphenyl)chromone (PD 98059, 1) is a MAPK/ERK kinase (MEK) inhibitor5,6) and used as one of the biologically active small molecules in the study described above.4)
