TCI Materials Science News November 2021
TCI is at the forefront of offering high quality materials for R&D. In this issue, we focus on the usefulness of our non-phosphorescent high quality carbazole, our photoreactive crosslinker used to form polymer thin film transistor by solution process, fabrication and evaluation of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) : 8T, and wizard monomer® for supramolecular polymer gels. We also provide an extensive catalog of organic and inorganic reagents that are valuable tools in the field of materials science.

Non-Phosphorescent High Quality CarbazoleIt has been recently reported that the optical properties of carbazole can be significantly affected by trace impurities that are difficult to separate. In view of the importance of the purity of carbazole as a starting material, TCI offers carbazole (high quality) [C3722] with excellent optical properties. The absorbance edge of C3722 is flat. Conventional carbazole shows the absorbance at 350 - 400 nm and room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) at 500 - 800 due to impurities. In contrast, C3722 shows no RTP at that range.

Photoreactive Crosslinker to Form Polymer Thin Film Transistor by Solution Process4-Azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid [A2674] is used as a photoreactive crosslinker in material science and life science. In general, organic electronic devices are unstable under heat and high-pressure conditions, therefore a method to manufacture devices under simple and mild conditions is needed. It has been reported that a photoreactive cross linker 4Bx with a moiety of A2674 fabricates polymer thin film transistors by solution process. 4Bx is miscible with the electronic material, and the electronic material is able to be held on the substrate under mild conditions by UV irradiation.

Fabrication and Evaluation of Organic Field-Effect Transistors (OFETs) : 8Tα-Octithiophene (8T) [O0313] is a p-type organic semiconductor with oligothiophene structure. TCI has fabricated and evaluated 8T-based organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). You can see the characteristics of vacuum-deposited 8T-based OFETs and the experimental details in fabrication and evaluation. The physical properties of 8T is shown in here.

Wizard Monomer® for Supramolecular Polymer GelsWizard Monomer® CD [A3439] and Wizard Monomer® AD [A3438] are acylamide monomers containing cyclodextrin (CD) and adamantane (AD) structure, respectively. The cyclodextrin (CD) and adamantane (AD) moieties lead to supramolecular host-guest interactions. It has been reported that polymerization of the acrylamide moieties forms self-healable polymer gels derived from the supramolecular interactions.
