TCI Materials Science News September 2020
TCI is at the forefront of offering high-quality materials for R&D. In this issue, we focus on the usefulness of our monomers for biomaterials/biocompatible materials research, quaternary ammonium salts, and highly regioselective organic semiconducting polymer. We also provide an extensive catalog of organic and inorganic reagents that are valuable tools in the field of materials science.
Monomers for Biomaterials/Biocompatible Materials Research

Monomers for Biomaterials/Biocompatible Materials Research

TCI offers monomers useful for biomaterials research, such as acrylates, lactones, dithiols, and diisocyanates. Among these categories our acrylic monomers comprise the largest number of products and are often utilized for biomaterials or biocompatible materials research, using conventional radical polymerization or controlled radical polymerization. In addition to the common monomers for biomaterials research including 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) [M0085] and N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) [I0401], TCI has zwitterionic monomers such as 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) [M2005], or monomers with reactive functional groups useful for conjugation with proteins or peptides.
Quaternary Ammonium Salts for Materials Science

Quaternary Ammonium Salts for Materials Science

Quaternary ammonium salts are organic compounds in which the ammonia molecule is tetrasubstituted with carbon and has a cationic state. A lot of quaternary ammonium salts have been synthesized and various applications have been reported in the literature. For example, in materials science, tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) [T1201] as an etching agent, tetraethylammonium hydroxide (TEAH) [T0096] as a raw material for zeolite synthesis, tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) [T0057] as an electrolyte, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) [H0081] as a capping agent for gold nanoparticles have been reported.
Highly Regioselective Organic Semiconducting Polymer

Highly Regioselective Organic Semiconducting Polymer

P3HT [P2513] is widely useful in organic electronics research, and is a representative material of soluble organic semiconducting polymers. The performance of electronic materials is typically dependent on the quality of the material. Among them, purity and molecular weight are important factors for the material’s performance. P2513 features a highly regioselective structure with a consistent average molecular weight and polydispersity index. In addition, P3HT is useful for solution process-able organic solar cells(OPV), perovskite solar cells(PSC), and organic transistor research, due to its high solubility.
