A Plant Hormone Bearing the Name "Trauma"

Traumatic acid (1) was isolated from green string-beans as a substance eliciting renewed growth activity in the parenchyma cells of the wounded bean mesocarp. It has been also reported that 1 in washed discs of a potato tuber provokes wound periderm formation consisting of protective tissues beneath injured surfaces. 1, a wound hormone in plant, has been named after Greek "τραύμα" (trauma) by A. J. Haagen-Smit et. al.1) 1 is biosynthesized from linolenic acid through multiple oxidations by enzymes etc.2,3)
