Application
Ropivacaine: A Long Acting, Amide-Type Local Anesthetic
Ropivacaine, an S-enantiomer of bupivacaine [B3925 (hydrochloride)], is a long acting, amide-type local anesthetic with both anesthetic and analgesic effects. Ropivacaine, like other local anesthetics, causes reversible blockade of impulse propagation along nerve fibers by preventing the inward movement of sodium ions through the cell membrane of the nerve fibers. Furthermore, ropivacaine is more selective for neuronal sodium channels and less selective for myocardial sodium channels than racemic bupivacaine. (The product is for research purpose only.)
