Etonogestrel: A Progestin Used in the Contraceptives
Etonogestrel is the biologically active metabolite of the synthetic progestin desogestrel [D4163].1) It has been reported that etonogestrel shows hormonal contraceptive effect by suppression of ovulation, increased viscosity of the cervical mucus, and alterations in the endometrium.2) In clinical use, etonogestrel is used in contraceptives, including implants and vaginal rings.2,3) (The product is for research purpose only.)
