Chloroboronsubphthalocyanine as a Valuable Optical Material

Chloroboronsubphthalocyanine (1) is a 14π-electron system compound with a bowl-shaped non-planar structure, where a boron atom is surrounded by a ligand composed of three isoindoline units. Due to its strong absorption with a maximum between 560-600 nm and a red-orange emission, 1 has been widely investigated as an optical material for applications such as organic photovoltaics (OPVs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and photodynamic therapy (PDT). In addition, 1 is essential for the synthesis of axial modified derivatives,2) and is utilized in researches including a study of the excited state dynamics of a subphthalocyanine dimer3) and the development of pentacene-subphthalocyanine conjugates as singlet fission materials.4)
