Vardenafil: A Selective PDE5 Inhibitor
Vardenafil hydrochloride is a selective inhibitor of 3’,5’-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) - specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) which is the predominant PDE isoenzyme in human corpora cavernosa, as with sildenafil [S0986 (Citrate)].1,2) In addition, recently PDE5 inhibitors, including tadalafil, are widely used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) which is a progressive disease that ultimately causes right heart failure and death.3) (The product is for research purpose only.)
