Brivaracetam: A Selective and High Affinity SV2A Ligand
Brivaracetam (UCB 34714) is chemically related to levetiracetam [L0234]. Synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) is a synaptic vesicle protein that regulates potential-dependent neurotransmitter release. Brivaracetam has a selective binding affinity for SV2A that is 15 to 30 times higher than that of levetiracetam, which may contribute to its anticonvulsant activity.
