Application
Vildagliptin：A Potent and Selective DPP-4 Inhibitor
Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is a gut-derived incretin hormone that stimulates insulin and suppresses glucagon secretion, inhibits gastric emptying, and reduces appetite and food intake. Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) is an enzyme that breaks down GLP-1, limiting its effectiveness. Vildagliptin is a potent and selective DPP-4 inhibitor. Through this inhibition, vildagliptin increases the blood concentration of active GLP-1, and exerts its hypoglycemic effect through increasing insulin secretion and reducing glucagon secretion.
