Pyrroloquinoline Quinone: A Water-Soluble, Vitamin-Like Redox-Cycling Orthoquinone Coenzyme
Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is a water-soluble, vitamin-like redox-cycling orthoquinone that was initially isolated from cultures of methylotropic bacteria. PQQ has been found to be a cofactor of some bacterial alcohol dehydrogenases, and is present in many animal tissues. PQQ is also reportedly present especially in natto (fermented soybeans) and tea, and the compound has been reported to have physiological activities such as antioxidant effect and nerve protection. (The product is for research purpose only.)
