Mdivi-1: A Selective Cell-Permeable Inhibitor of Mitochondrial Fission
Mitochondria play a key role in maintaining cellular metabolic homeostasis, and its fission and fusion play important roles in in several pathological conditions. Mitochondrial fission mediated by the GTPase dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp-1) is an attractive drug target in numerous maladies that range from heart disease to neurodegenerative disorders.
Mdivi-1 (mitochondrial division inhibitor 1) has been reported to inhibit selectively Drp-1 dependent fission with cell permeability. Inhibiting mitochondrial fission with Mdivi-1 has proven cytoprotective benefits in several cell types involved in a wide array of cardiovascular injury models. (The product is for research purpose only.)
