5-Methylcytidine: An Important Base-modified Ribonucleoside in Epigenetics
5-Methylcytidine (m5C) is a modified ribonucleoside that has long been known to be present in tRNA and rRNA.1) It is subject to oxidative processing in vivo to form 5-(hydroxymethyl)cytidine (hm5C) [H1863], which has roles in cell viability and development through these effects on RNA as follows; RNA structure and translation efficiency.2,3)
