EMB: A bacteriostatic Antituberculous Agent
(S,S)-N,N'-Bis(1-hydroxy-2-butyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride (commonly abbreviated EMB), a chemical synthetic bacteriostatic antituberculous agent, is a strong inhibitor of the mycobacterial cell wall biosynthesis. EMB is usually given in combination with other antituberculous agents, such as isoniazid [I0138], rifampicin [R0079] and pyrazinamide [P0633].
